From the archive: Conn Transitional Chuberry
General description : The Transitional tenor is rather rare. There are lots of Transitional altos still around in all different versions (have a look at my alto section) but tenors were basically build in only 2 versions : the Chuberry style and the 10M style. Completely different horns. Not that many tenors were built anyway, and its very hard to find a good one.For the record : this type (Ill call it the Transitional ChuBerry type) is almost identical to the New Wonder series 2 tenor. Theres only minor difference in the keywork, but body and neck are exactly the same. Yes : this is the type that made Leon Brown Chu Berry famous during the early 1930s! He didnt play a New Wonder series 2 : he played one of these Transitionals. These horns are known for their huge sound and almost limitless power. A true jazz horn for the advanced player! This horn is a bare brass version. It came into our shop as a rather poor relacquer so we stripped it down chemically to bare brass. It looks just beautifully now once again, with a real vintage look.No engraving on this tenor, only the Conn logo on the bell. Not uncommon: Ive seen altos from the same period without engraving also. Lots of experiments were implemented by Conn during this Transitional period. For more info : have a look at https://www.stohrermusic.com/2012/10/conn-transitional-6m-saxophones-the...Condition : This was a true project horn, and it took some time to finish it. When it came into our shop it was in poor condition, but without major damage or dents. A complete overhaul / restoration was done in 2020 / 2021, and now the horn is in fantastic condition once again. We used brown leather pads with flat metal resonators, a close match to the original Conn pads. The rolled tone holes are all in great original condition! Also all cellulose rollers are original. We replaced all locking screws, as most of them were damaged or stuck. No damage, dents or repairs on the body or neck! Only a couple of minor dings on the usual places.Warranty : 1 year full warranty.Level : Professional.Body : Lacquer : bare brass.Condition : excellent.Visual : No issues.Repairs : none.Engraving : logo only.Keywork : Lacquer : bare brass.Condition : excellent.Pads : new brown leather Prestini pads with flat metal resonators.Neck : Lacquer : bare brass.Condition : excellent.
