Conn Transitional 6M - Art Deco
Conn Transitional 6M type, with low B and Bb key on the left hand side of the bell, and the underslung mechanism on the neck. This is the TRUE Transitional type, with both ChuBerry and 6M type features. Not that many were made and they are highly sought after. Further details: matt silver-plated body, silver plated keywork, rolled tone holes, gold wash bell, double socket neck with micro tuner, no key guard for low B and Bb keys. This sax had the old-style left hand pinky plateau (ChuBerry style) and the typical beautiful Art Deco engraving on the bell. The sound of these Transitionals is hard to beat, and they play in tune very well. What a joy to play this horn!Condition : This alto was overhauled in 2018 by its previous owner: MRO saxophones did an additional full service and maintenance check in November 2020. Completely disassembled, ultrasonic cleaning, silver polished, rods straightened, cork renewed and teflon added on several places, new oil, springs adjusted, assembled and aligned. The sax was played quite a lot but is still in very good condition. Theres evidence of some mild dent removing on the bow section, well done. The key guards did get some knicks during its life. Theres one resolder on the low C keyguard : well done. Tone holes are not flattened and in original condition. All locking screws are present. No rust marks at low E flat tone hole. The silver finish has minor wear on the usual places, such as the thumb hook area, LH G# key, palm keys and the bow section. Theres also a hand-engraved identification on the backside : Fresco School (Hard to see, as it was buffed out later). The Art Deco engraving is perfect and just beautiful! The pads are in almost new condition. The neck is in very good condition, with silver wear, a perfect working microtuner and no dents. Mouthpiece end has a tiny thing (probably from dropping the neck) but the inside is round : no issue at all. The microtuner had the inscription: PatD - July 8-1919 -No.1308903.
